FAQ: resources, fleets, Pillars and combat

Short answer

A mining planet is a temporary world containing Iron, Crystal, or Aether that several players can exploit with an Orbital Drill and Miners.

Useful detail

Between 10 and 100 mining planets may be active at the same time. Each contains a single resource and appears with a stock equal to between 5 and 10 24-hour resource chests for that resource.

Its appearance reveals whether it contains Iron, Crystal, or Aether. An espionage mission confirms the resource and reveals the remaining stock, estimated time before depletion, and the players present with their Drills, Miners, drilling rates, and planet occupancy.

The Orbital Drill is built under Specialized Devices. It requires Shipyard level 12, Infrastructure and Hull technologies level 10, and Orbital Drilling level 1.

A drilling mission carries exactly 1 Drill and up to 200 000 Miners. The Drill alone extracts 50 000 Iron-equivalent per hour, and each Miner adds 1,4 Iron-equivalent per hour. With 200 000 Miners, the total rate is:

330 000 Iron/h;
220 000 Crystal/h;
110 000 Aether/h.

The Miners’ drilling capacity is separate from their global production bonus on planets. The combined Drill and Miner rate then receives +8% per level from the resource technology: Iron Extraction, Crystal Extraction, or Aether Refining. This rate is snapshotted at launch, so an active mission keeps its original rate.

The Drill has a base hold of 18 000 000 units, improved by existing cargo bonuses. The mission occupies one slot in the global active-mission quota during the outbound journey, drilling, and return. Resources are credited only upon arrival at the origin planet.

Outside drilling, a Drill can be deployed alone between two of your planets, like a Recycler. It cannot carry Miners, cargo, or any other unit, and its visible hold remains reserved for fuel. This deployment can be recalled like an ordinary fleet.

The Orbital Drilling technology authorizes a first mission at level 2, followed by one additional simultaneous mission every two levels. A player may maintain only one active mission on the same mining planet, but several players may exploit that planet at the same time.

The fleet returns automatically when its hold is full or the planet is depleted. Manual recall remains possible.

A mining planet has no predetermined lifetime. It disappears only when its stock is depleted. A new planet usually appears after 120 to 240 minutes, or immediately if fewer than 10 mining planets remain active.

Short answer

A normal return brings back operational ships and, unless the attacker lost, lightly damaged ships. The losing side's lightly damaged ships wait in an emergency evacuation until manually recalled. Heavily damaged attacking hulls return separately to their planet of origin.

Useful detail

A fleet excluded by pre-combat protection neither departs nor returns: it never left the planet.

Classic return exists if:

the attacker retains at least one operational ship, or did not lose and retains at least one lightly damaged hull;
crew from destroyed hulls survived but cannot join a return containing ships;
the attacker is not a bot.

If the attacker won, the loot leaves with this returning fleet.

For each neutralized player ship model, floor(15%) receive light damage, floor(45%) receive heavy damage, and the remainder are destroyed. This applies to wins, losses, and draws. Only the losing side places lightly damaged ships in a stationary Emergency Evacuation until manually recalled. The victorious attacker's lightly damaged ships return with the normal fleet; the victorious defender's remain on the planet. Heavily damaged attacking hulls return separately at fixed speed 2 500, without a mission slot or recall; heavily damaged defending hulls immediately enter the dock.

Heavy-damage repairs use the normal Shipyard queue and cost 20% of the construction cost. Their total duration is 20% of the real construction time before the normal one-second minimum. Heavy hulls score no points during return, dock storage, or repair and cannot take part in missions, cargo, active power, or espionage. Each repaired hull regains its normal points, with no extra points for the resources spent. Light damage follows normal return or evacuation rules and needs no repair.

Example

An attack won with a single operational ship can generate a classic return carrying the remaining transportable loot, in addition to a possible return of damaged hulls.

If 100 ships of the same model are neutralized, 15 take light damage, 45 take heavy damage, and 40 are destroyed. Only the 40 destroyed hulls contribute to Debris fields and determine which crew members are subject to the survival rate.

Short answer

Ground combat does not resolve shots one at a time against a random target. It distributes shots statistically among opposing groups, with a targeting weight and possible coverage.

Useful detail

For each group:

the number of shots is unit count × rate of fire;
if a unit has no defined rate of fire, it fires once (1 shot) per turn;
nominal shots are distributed according to unit count × targeting weight;
rounding remainders are redistributed deterministically to preserve the total number of shots;
Soldiers and Iron Ramparts have a targeting weight of 1, Rift Specters have 2, Kinetic Reapers have 3, and Plasma Superchargers have 4;
each stack of Kinetic Reapers multiplies the targeting weight of Soldiers by 6, without receiving a damage bonus;
if a Reaper volley over-targets the last Soldiers, its excess shots are not transferred to another category;
Iron Ramparts can cover shots aimed at non-cover units, up to 10 shots per Iron Rampart per turn;
if coverage is saturated, the remaining shots stay on their nominal target;
each hit can put no more than one unit out of action.

How should `CIB` and `PRI` be read?

CIB corresponds to the targeting weight received: it applies when the enemy distributes its shots among your groups;
PRI corresponds to a target preference specific to the firing unit.

For the Kinetic Reaper, PRI 6 means that it is six times more likely to choose Soldiers than if it used normal targeting. This priority guides its shots but does not increase its damage.

This means that on land, targeting is distributed according to unit counts and unit profiles, not selected completely at random shot by shot as in space.
Coverage is consumed before evasion: a shot redirected to an Iron Rampart uses the Iron Rampart's evasion and defenses, even if the unit originally targeted would have had better evasion.
Excess damage from a hit is not redistributed to another target: it becomes overkill, even if the target had already received enough attack to be put out of action.

Example

If a defender fields two groups with the same targeting weight, one representing 80% of the forces and the other 20%, the larger group will receive the majority of the shots calculated for that turn.
However, a smaller group with a higher targeting weight may receive more shots than a simple calculation based on unit count would suggest.
If the attacker scores 300 000 effective hits during the turn, it cannot put more than 300 000 units out of action during that turn, even if some hits deal much more damage than a unit's HP.

Short answer

Each neutralized unit is allocated among light wounds, serious wounds, possible capture, and death.

Useful detail

For an ordinary neutralized unit, the calculation is performed per model with rounding down:

20% become lightly wounded and are healed immediately;
40% become seriously wounded and enter their owner's Hospital;
10% are captured only if their side has lost;
the remaining units die, approximately 30% for the defeated side and 40% for the winning side or in a draw.

The Soldier is excluded from the Hospital: 50% of neutralized units become lightly wounded and are healed immediately, never generating serious wounds. This leaves approximately 40% dead on the defeated side after 10% are captured, and 50% dead on the winning side or in a draw. Treatment for serious wounds in other units uses the normal Population queue and costs 20% of the production cost. The total treatment time is 20% of the actual production time per unit, multiplied by the quantity, before the artificial one-second minimum for normal recruitment. They benefit from Population accelerators. The server batches units whose timers have expired during an action, a page change, or at the end of treatment, without issuing a request per unit. Seriously wounded units score no points until healed, but still occupy population capacity. Once healed, they regain their normal points with no extra points for the resources spent; until then they are unavailable and invisible to espionage.

Captures always affect only the defeated side and amount to 10% of its neutralized units, including when fighting a persistent Errant. They become active for the winner immediately: directly on the planet if the winner is defending, or when the returning force arrives if the winner is attacking. In a draw, there are no captures. Ephemeral encounters with no owner or destination inventory produce no captures; this share is counted among the dead. Seriously wounded NPC units are recovered immediately, with no persistent pool or queue.

Example

If the defeated side loses 100 ordinary units, 20 immediately return as lightly wounded, 40 go to the Hospital, 10 are captured by the winner, and 30 die.

Short answer

Naël Soryn can infiltrate a player's or an Errant's Interstellar Sensors network. In the Pillars console, select Special → Hacking, then the target planet.

The operation lasts 30 minutes, occupies Naël and costs the usual Pillars journey price. No troops are needed and it cannot be canceled. On completion, Naël receives 400 XP, up to his maximum level, even if no movements are observed.

Useful details

The report shows all space movements visible in the target empire's Sensors, including detected third-party movements. It is a snapshot at observation time: it stays fixed and does not track fleets live.

Accessories equipped at launch improve the information obtained. The Spectral Decoder progressively reveals fleet composition; once ship models are visible, cargo details known to the Sensors are also available in the manifest tooltip. The Trajectory Synchronizer improves timing precision for Errant movements.

Player fleets always use five categories: less than 2, 4, 6 or 8 hours, or 8 hours or more. No exact arrival time is revealed. Human movements keep these categories even when seen through an Errant's Sensors.

For Errants, the Synchronizer progressively refines the estimate down to 5-minute steps, based on the time remaining when the snapshot is taken.

The target receives a message as soon as the Pillars activate: a hacking alert if the operation is identified, otherwise a counter-espionage report. Naël's level affects his stealth against the opposing hero. Detection alerts the defender but does not cause the mission to fail.

You can launch one hack per day against the same player, across all their planets. This separate counter follows the attack quota's UTC calendar. An attack truce blocks hacking; hacking neither starts nor extends its cycle.

Errants have no daily quota, but Naël must be available for each new operation.

Example

With a level V Synchronizer, an Errant fleet arriving in 18 minutes at observation time is displayed as “In less than 20 minutes”. This estimate remains fixed in the report.

Short answer

An Errant is based on one of the top 250 players, then receives a faction-specific allocation.

Useful detail

Creating and replenishing the roster requires at least 250 eligible source players. Below that threshold, the server maintains the Errants that are already complete without creating new ones.

In multi-planet V2, the Errant randomly selects 5 to 8 planets from the source player, or all of them if the source player has fewer. It retains this source and selection until repositioning, even if the player drops out of the top.

Buildings are copied for each planet, with +1 to +2 applied to the three mines; technologies are copied, except Espionage, which varies from -3 to +1.
Civilians and logistics are copied exactly to their respective planets.
Fleet generated from the Errant base's pre-fleet points, with the faction threat; it remains fully grouped with the generated assault.
Assault generated from a global budget equal to 20% of the source points, multiplied by the same threat as the fleet. The Soldiers share is divided by 15, then reallocated proportionally among the other units.
Defenses generated from 10% of the source points and the faction's defensive coefficient. Aegides receive 5% starting at 5 M source points, with a cap of 2 500 per planet; the surplus funds local Bastions. No Iris.
Defenses: 60 to 80% on the military dock selected at reset, with the remainder distributed among certain colonies. This allocation applies neither to resources nor to locally copied civilians.
Production: historical faction coefficients are divided by 1,5, then the production of Iron, Crystal, and Aether is multiplied by 0,70. At each generation or regeneration, each planet receives 60 % of a 6 to 24 h draw from its own reduced production, or a 12 to 24 h draw for the military planet, without pooling. This represents approximately 42 % of the former allocation for an identical draw; stocks already credited are retained. Energy and unit production remain unchanged. Espionage and attacks update production even during inactivity, with no resource sanctuary for Errants. Protections for human players remain unchanged.
Recyclers II grouped with the fleet, at least according to the existing rule based on its points; no Recyclers I or drills are copied.
Points recalculated across all colonies and mission assets, with technologies counted once and without the former infrastructure multiplier. Only ship losses reduce the effective threat.

Example

A source player with thirteen planets gives the Errant five to eight colonies. A source player with four planets gives it four. Adding colonies does not multiply its assault or defense budget.

Short answer

The result is drawn randomly from a probability table.

Useful detail

The engine draws between several families of results:

neutral failure;
resources;
ships or components in space;
population;
hostile presence;
total crash;
Astrium;
rare item;
neutral success.

Distribution:

17,25% neutral failure
34,125% resources in both vectors, with 2 to 4 additional Echoes
15% ships or components in space only
15% population in ground exploration only
11% hostile
0,4% total crash
3,125% Astrium
7,7% rare item
11,4% neutral success

When the draw lands on hostile presence, the game then draws an internal intensity:

small encounter: 60%, random enemy force by type between 10% and 20% for Pillars, and space budget between 20% and 30%;
medium encounter: 30%, random enemy force by type between 30% and 50% for Pillars, and space budget between 40% and 60%;
large encounter: 10%, random enemy force by type between 65% and 85% for Pillars, and space budget between 60% and 70%.

With a small number of units, the actual enemy force may be proportionally greater than the announced ratio. Hostile units are always whole units: if the calculation yields a positive fraction, it is rounded up to at least 1 unit of the relevant model. For example, if you send 1 ship and encounter a small space encounter at 20%, you will not face 0,2 hostile ships, but 1 hostile ship. The same rounding principle applies to hostile ground encounters via the Pillars.

In space, the encountered presence generates a fleet from the Errant PVE catalogue: the player's total points determine the model tier, then the value of the sent ships multiplied once by the size ratio determines the enemy budget. On land, it continues to copy the sent assault units, and each type rolls its own ratio. It also receives random combat technologies between -3 and +3 compared with the player.

In the report, enemy forces bear Breach class names. These names are cosmetic: they do not change the statistics of Errant models or Pillar units, losses, wounded, or captures.

Example

An exploration can return with no gain, bring back useful loot, trigger a battle, or be completely lost.

Short answer

Loot depends on the weight of the expedition.

Useful detail

The game calculates an overall value based on what you commit to the mission:

value of ships in space exploration;
value of units and carriers authorized for land exploration;
any resources carried on board.

This value then serves as the basis for calculating possible rewards, often within a range of 6% to 20% of the committed weight depending on the type of result. On a resources result, the budget is allocated by economic value and then converted into raw quantities: 1 Iron = 1, 1 Crystal = 1,5, 1 Aether = 3. At an equivalent budget, a draw therefore yields less raw Aether than Crystal or Iron. The game also adds a global draw of 2 to 4 Echoes. Iron only: 27,5%; Crystal only: 27,5%; Aether only: 20%; two distinct resources: 20%; three resources: 5%. The budget is shared among the selected resources, then limited by available cargo space; 2 to 4 Echoes are added separately.

Each economic gain is limited by a cap specific to the exploration, calculated as follows: floor((24-hour resource chest value in Iron equivalent × (100 + bonus)) / 2400). The bonus adds +5% per level of Exploration Technology and the Field Extraction bonus active for the player. The 6% to 20% roll applies to 10 times the weight, capped at the weight needed to reach the maximum with a 20% roll. Sending more weight no longer increases the gain. Maximum at 20% with sufficient weight; at 8%, the budget is 8/20 of the cap. Resources are limited by available cargo space. Astrium, Echoes and rare loot are excluded.

When a ground exploration yields population, Survivor Rally increases the requested value by 2% to 10% before this exploration's cap is applied. This skill changes neither the probability of the population roll nor its random composition. The population bonus lowers the weight needed to reach the cap without compensating for a lower roll.

Loot is then further limited by the available carrying capacity.

If cargo capacity, the per-exploration cap, or the reward budget produces 0 actual gain excluding Echoes, the final report remains neutral, except when the resources result credits its global Echoes.

The effective economic cap is floor(base cap × duration multiplier). The base cap still includes Exploration Technology and the active faction bonus. The multiplier applies to resources, ships, components, and population units, but not to probabilities, Astrium, Echoes, rare items, battles, losses, or debris.

Example

A small expedition may succeed, but will yield little. An expedition whose hold is already full may also obtain a neutral result, even if the initial draw targeted resources.

Short answer

The Federation market exchanges resources with a shared reserve for the universe. It does not depend on an offer posted by another player.

Useful detail

This system applies once the redesign has been explicitly activated for a universe; historical offers and convoys continue to be processed until they close.

Iron, Crystal and Aether stocks start with the equivalent of 10 24h resource chests for the universe. Every Monday at 00:00 UTC, the market only tops up a stock below this baseline. Surpluses and prices are not reset. When a resource is depleted, it cannot be bought until an incoming supply convoy arrives or the weekly top-up restores it.

Each resource has an index between 75% and 125%. Its reference value is Iron 1, Crystal 1.5 and Aether 3. Only the index of the resource you buy changes the conversion; the resource you sell keeps its reference value. You pay this rate, plus a 10% market commission and 6 Echoes.

After explicit activation, v7 accepts only whole delivered quantities and
whole payments. The market total is calculated exactly, then increased once by
10 % and rounded up. The receipt shows the base rounded up, the commission
that completes the total — which may be zero for a small trade — and the
6 Echoes. When you enter a budget, the server delivers the greatest whole
payable quantity, limited by stock, and charges only its actual cost: the
unused balance stays with you. An exact quantity without enough funds or
availability is refused. A stock of 1 or 2 units can therefore be
fully bought. The estimate updates as you type; the server checks the price,
stock and balances when you confirm. A new price or a changed quantity
requires another confirmation, without an automatic debit.
After a confirmed market trade, wait 1 h before the next one in the
same universe, regardless of planet or resource.

Two convoys leave together: your payment goes to the Federation and the
purchased resource goes from the Federation to your planet. Each occupies a
slot in the global active-mission quota, so two free slots are required to confirm the exchange. Your payment joins available stock only upon arrival,
even though it already affects the price when the exchange is confirmed.

The Federation remains visible on the map, but players cannot launch any direct action toward this hub.

Short answer

Each premium item has a precise effect.

Useful detail

The main items are:

Iris of the Pillars: added to the inventory, then activated on a planet to block a ground incursion via the Pillars;
Resource Chest: gives resources on the active planet when used;
Universal Fragment: used to upgrade artifacts;
Planetary Teleporter: an item reserved for players that instantly moves one of their planets to a completely empty coordinate. A PvE planet or settlement, particularly the Federation, can never use it. A destination occupied by a player's planet, a PvE/gameplay environment, or a Debris field is refused. A planet can be moved again only every 45 days; the player must wait 48 hours between two moves and can successfully complete only 3 moves within a rolling 30 days. After the move, no new departure can be launched from that planet for 30 minutes. The temporary migration button in Overview is separate: migration beneficiaries have five moves in total during the seven days following the shared reopening, with no new item or new normal cooldown. Ongoing missions and existing normal locks remain blocking.

Bulk purchases are available for certain items. Direct purchases of 24h resource chests, Iris, and Universal Fragments share a budget of 250 000 Astrium per UTC calendar month, per account and per universe, to preserve balance among players. You may allocate this allowance freely, including spending it entirely on just one of these consumables. Emperor, Monarch, and Rise of the Empire packs, as well as items obtained from other sources, do not consume this budget. The counter starts at zero when this rule is implemented: previous purchases are excluded. The Planetary Teleporter is currently not available for purchase: it is distributed exclusively through compatible loot and rewards.

Example

You can buy several Universal Fragments, then use them to advance an artifact. You can also buy a chest, choose the resource to receive when using it, and receive the resources on your active planet.
