Shipyard Construction, Assembly, and Recycling

This page covers the construction methods, cost, recycling, and maximum queue duration at the Space Yard.

Building or Assembling a Ship

A ship is built at the Space Yard from a previously saved model.

Choose a Production Method

Direct construction consumes resources. Assembly consumes components already in stock.

Direct construction:

  • pays the full cost in Iron, Crystal, Aether and optionally Astrium;
  • uses the shipyard's normal construction time.

Assembly:

  • consumes the necessary components already produced;
  • requires all parts to be available;
  • is approximately 10 times faster.

The game always checks component stock before accepting assembly.

Example

If you have already produced all the parts for a model, assembly is much faster than direct construction.

Requirements and Duration

In both cases, the final time depends on the shipyard bonuses:

  • Space Yard level;
  • Coalescence Matrix;
  • Computer technology;
  • Monarch Pack;
  • alliance bonus;
  • faction skill Shipyards, for ships and components only.

The final time is rounded and never falls below 1 second.

The universe's Space Yard speed applies to components, as well as to ship construction, assembly, transformation, recycling, and repair. The rules that apply to active and queued jobs are detailed in Construction, Research, and Queues.

Ship chassis require both the Infrastructure technology and a Space Yard at the required level: Hunter and Interceptor at level 2, followed by Carrier at 4, Escort at 6, Shuttle at 8, Corvette at 10, Cruiser at 12, Heavy cruiser at 14, and Destroyer at 16.

If a colony does not have the required Space Yard, the model remains visible, but the Build and Assemble actions are unavailable on that planet.

Example

Two players starting construction of the same model can have very different construction times depending on their shipyard bonuses.

Calculating a Ship's Cost

The cost of a ship is the sum of its chassis cost and the cost of all its components, including any Hangars.

The game adds:

  • the cost of Infrastructure;
  • the cost of Hulls;
  • the cost of Reactors;
  • the cost of Weapons;
  • the cost of Shields;
  • the cost of Hangars, when installed.

The final cost therefore depends entirely on the model you designed.

Example

Two models based on the same chassis can cost very differently depending on the number, type, and quality of the components fitted.

Recycling and Refunds

Recycling allows you to deliberately destroy a ship, a specialized device, or a component to recover its full effective construction cost.

The recycling refund is 100% of the effective construction cost of the ship, device, or component when the queue is confirmed. Any active galactic catch-up is therefore taken into account.

Recycling takes place in the Space Yard and follows the usual queue rules. The recycled item is removed from stock when recycling starts, then the resources are returned when recycling ends.

Example

Without catch-up, a component costing 1 000 Iron and 200 Crystal returns 1 000 Iron and 200 Crystal.

With a 35% catch-up reduction, this same component costs 650 Iron and 130 Crystal, then returns 650 Iron and 130 Crystal.

Maximum Queue Duration

The total Space Yard queue cannot exceed 15 days per production type.

This limit applies to the following categories:

  • ships
  • defenses
  • specialized devices
  • units
  • components
  • recycling

Example

Even if you have the necessary resources, a new production order may be refused if the queue for that category already exceeds the authorized limit.
