Excavation Results, Delays, and Threats

Excavation sites offer resources and fragments based on their profile, and some missions may be delayed or encounter a hostile presence. This page describes the discoveries, the effects of these events, and how to consult reports.

Site Resources and Fragments

Each site has its own raw probabilities and its own lists of possible fragments and resources. No site provides everything.

The five Excavation resources are: Monarchic Alloy, Weave Filament, Mnemic Substrate, Pillar Ceramic, and Breach Condensate. Fragments correspond to accessories; their catalog, effects, and compatibility information are listed in Accessory Catalog.

A specialized site may favor a particular family; sites with broader lists offset this versatility with less concentrated probabilities. Site data are rolled when the universe launches and remain stable. The Excavation report lists the results obtained; the Stratigraphic Scanner can also reveal the site's raw data under the conditions described in the catalog.

Delays and Missed Milestones

A delay temporarily blocks the team's progress for between 60 and 900 minutes. The mission is not canceled, but milestones passed during this blockage are lost.

When the team resumes, it evaluates only the next draw that is still accessible. There are no catch-up draws and no hidden success. A delay can therefore reduce the actual number of opportunities in a long mission without removing results already obtained.

Hostile Presence and Evacuation

A non-final hostile presence suspends the Excavation and creates a private target on the excavated planet. The interim messages and final report are described in Mission Tracking and Reports.

The target belongs exclusively to the player concerned: other players cannot spy on or attack it, and no group attack is possible. You must first spy on it to learn its forces, then win with the appropriate attack: a space target can be attacked with Fleet only, while a ground target can be attacked with Pillars only.

Only one attempt is allowed for the relevant combat type. A victory makes the target disappear, and the Excavation resumes from the moment of victory. Milestones that have already elapsed are not replayed.

If the threat is not defeated before its deadline, or if the attempt fails, the team makes an emergency evacuation and keeps only the gains obtained before the encounter. If the hostile appears on the last possible draw—or during a 3 h Excavation—the mission evacuates immediately: there is not enough time to intervene.

A space presence follows the Errants' combat rules and can generate a public Debris field. The share of the public Debris field from destroyed hostile ships uses a floor specific to Excavations of 3%, while Errants retain their 5% floor. The hostile target produces no resources, does not counterattack, and does not call allies.

Mission Tracking and Reports

Ongoing missions are visible in Operations. Excavation results can be viewed in Journal → Excavations. The Journal page groups the Errants, Excavations, and Explorations categories. Narrative reports arrive in the message inbox under the Logistics category.

Without a hostile encounter, the Excavation sends a single final report. In the event of a hostile encounter, an interim message immediately warns of the blockage and states how much time remains to repel the threat; a final report is sent after the mission resumes or the team evacuates. The report distinguishes the draws, gains, any delays, the raw readout provided by the Scanner, and the experience gained.
