Travel via the Pillars

This page describes travel via the Pillars, their RT costs, loading rules, and how they differ from fleets.

Space Fleet and Projection via the Pillars

A space fleet follows a route, with a travel time and an Aether cost. The Pillars project ground units without a conventional space journey or Aether consumption: most missions are instantaneous and cost RT; Exploration and Hacking each have their own duration. See Launching and tracking an exploration and how a hacking mission unfolds.

For fleet-specific calculations, see travel time, reference speed, speed setting, and Aether consumption. The projection cost calculation is detailed in cost components.

Example

A Transport via the Pillars does not work like a space convoy: the main concern is not travel time, but projection cost.

Projection Cost Components

The cost depends on the projection distance and the ground population sent.

The Pillars use the same geography as fleets. A local projection costs less than a distant one, and long routes receive additional weight. Total consumption comprises two components: activation of the Pillars based on distance and projection of the ground population. Specialized devices, resources, and components do not count as ground population. Reductions from Energy technology, the Pillar Concordance alliance technology, the Sleeping Pillars Seal, and the faction all apply to this total consumption. Transported RT is added separately and does not benefit from the reduction, since it is delivered to its destination rather than consumed.

Pillar Mission Manifest and Compatibility

The Pillars have their own transport rules.

Public rules:

  • resonateurTrame is allowed only on Transport and Deployment;
  • ground units are allowed in Pillars Exploration;
  • among the special units in a Pillars Exploration, only Small Transporter and Large Transporter are allowed;
  • recyclers are not eligible for Pillar missions.

The projection cost in RT is always recalculated by the server and added to any RT transported.

The roles of the relevant devices are presented in the overview of specialized devices.

Example

A mission may be valid for Pillars Transport but rejected for Pillars Exploration if it contains an unauthorized special unit.
